16-Year Old Charged In Connection With 3 North Side Carjackings

A 16-year-old boy was charged after he allegedly crashed one of the stolen vehicles on the South Side Tuesday afternoon.

CHICAGO - A teenage boy police have connected to a number of carjackings on the North Side faces multiple felonies after police arrested him after a crash and foot chase near 79th and Throop on the South Side Tuesday afternoon. Chicago police say the boy, a 16-year-old, was driving a car that was stolen in a carjacking the day before in the 1400 block of West Byron Avenue.

Police tried to pull the car over for a minor traffic violation around 12:15 p.m., but the driver sped away and crashed the car nearby. He was arrested shortly after a foot pursuit and now faces three felony counts of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm, one felony count of receiving/possessing/selling stolen vehicle and aggravated fleeing/damage >$300 property.

The boy is also believed to be responsible for carjackings reported in the 4200 block of North Kenmore Avenue on July 19 and in the 4800 block of North Paulina Street on Nov. 2.
