46th Ward Offering Prescription Discount Rx Cards

Ald. James Cappleman announced his office is providing the new card to residents.

CHICAGO, IL — The 46th Ward office is now providing the Chicago Rx Card, a prescription discount card for all Chicagoans, Ald. James Cappleman announced in his Friday newsletter. The card, managed by the City Clerk's office, is accepted at all major pharmacies and most independent drug stores.

The card offers savings of up to 80 percent on more than 60,000 prescription drugs, the alderman said.

"Everyone is eligible — the card is free, there is no paperwork to complete, no limits on usage and no expiration date," Cappleman said in his newsletter. "It is available to everyone, regardless of age, income, health or immigration status."

Even people with existing health insurance prescription coverage can use the card — both can't be used at the same time, but people are free to choose the one that offers more savings on a particular drug, the alderman said.

"Health care costs are a concern for many in our community, and I am happy we can offer one more tool to ease the burden," Cappleman said.
