Acoustic Hot Tuna Provide Timeless Treat To Old Town School Fans!

Legendary Duo Jorma Kaukonen & Jack Cassady Share Nostalgic Stories Through Their Transcendent Songs!

Last Friday, two 60's era Icon's strolled onto the stage at The Old Town School of Folk Music, one of Chicago's classic, finest institutions-a true Chicago staple. The Old Town School of Folk Music's Maurer Hall, was the perfect venue to relax in comfort and take in two Rock & Roll Hall of Famers whose legend proceeds them.

Jorma Kaukonen was a founding member of two iconic 60's groups: The Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna. Kaukonen has been the leading practitioner and teacher of fingerstyle guitar and recognized as one of the most highly respected interpreters of roots music, blues, Americana and of course a legend in the rock and roll community.

Similarly to Jorma, Jack Cassady, also became an integral proponent of the classic San Francisco sound while sharing the stage with Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna. On Friday night, Cassady "wowed" their spellbound audience with a display of some of the finest bass guitar chops fans have ever witnessed. The audience broke out in applause after each and every solo. Cassady exuded a "love of the game"through his obvious passion and stage presence, both understated and brilliant at the same time.

Jorma on the other hand, was the quintessential front man, injecting humor and wit during brief respites while honoring the history of Hot Tuna's music through thoughtful song-smithing and meaningful story-telling. Jorma carried the singing load, complimenting his legendary guitar stylings. Combining meaningful lyrics with masterful fingerstyle guitar, Kaukonen's cherry on the proverbial musical icing included harmonics that only an authentic Master could seamlessly provide to grateful fans.

The duo of Jorma & Jack were a transcendent, tight pair and what endeared them so beautifully to their audience was the fact that they were clearly enjoying each moment-not content to go through the motions. One got the sense that the audience could have witnessed their show all night and no one would have left their seat.
