Architectural Artifacts To Close In Lincoln Square

After 31 years in the neighborhood, the shop is closing its doors.

CHICAGO — The 80,000-square-foot Architectural Artifacts shop on Ravenswood is closing its doors soon, its owner Stuart Grannen announced. Founded and incorporated in 1987, the shop has drawn collectors, antique hunters and interior designers from around the world for more than three decades.

Grannen said he will continue to sell his artifacts and antiques online.

“After 30-plus years I need a bit of a break from retail, and retail probably needs a break from me,” Grannen said in a media release. “I will continue to travel the world nonstop buying remarkable items while refreshing my sense of adventure and design."

The shop will hold an auction at Leslie Hindman Auctioneers to clear out inventory before it shutters.

Artifact Events, which shares the same building as the shop, is owned separately and will remain open.
