Catalytic Converter Thefts Reported In Ravenswood, Budlong Woods

Police issued a community alert for North Side residents.

CHICAGO — Catalytic converters were stolen from at least nine vehicles in Ravenswood, Budlong Woods and Edgewater between Feb. 20 and March 10, police said in a community alert issued Thursday.

When a catalytic converter is removed, a vehicle will make a roaring sound that gets louder as you push the gas pedal.

Police said the converters were cut and removed from the vehicles in the following locations:

• 5300 block of N. Winthrop Ave. between 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 20 and 9 a.m. on Feb. 21.
• 2700 block of W. Berwyn Ave. between 9 p.m. on Feb. 22 and 8:40 a.m. on Feb. 23.
• 5300 block of N. Washtenaw Ave. on Feb. 23 at 11:45 a.m.
• 5300 block of N. Washtenaw Ave. between 11 p.m. on Feb. 22 and 11 p.m. on 23.
• 5400 block of N. Washtenaw Ave. between 7 p.m. on Feb. 22 and 12 p.m. on Feb. 24.
• 2600 block of W. Winnemac Ave. between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Feb. 23.
• 5000 block of N. Winchester Ave. between 6 p.m. on Feb. 25 and 6:40 a.m. on Feb. 26.
• 1600 block of W. Ainslie St. between 2:15 p.m. on Feb. 26 and 10 a.m. on March 1.
• 4900 block of N. Marine Dr. between 5 p.m. on March 7 and 10 p.m. on March 10.
