Clark Street Water Main Project To Begin
Expect traffic and parking restrictions along sections of Clark and Ashland starting Jan. 21.

CHICAGO — The city's Department of Water Management and a construction company will begin work on the Clark Street water main project Monday, Jan. 21. The project will replace more than 7,600 feet of old water main that dates back to 1891, the city said.
You can expect parking and traffic restrictions on the following streets:
- Clark from Bryn Mawr to Foster
- Balmoral from Ashland to Lakewood
- Summerdale from Ashland to Glenwood
- Berwyn from Clark to Glenwood
- Farragut from Clark to Glenwood
Two crews will be working simultaneously in order to expedite the project, Ald. Pat O'Connor (40th) said in a letter to residents. One crew will begin work at Foster moving north while the other crew will begin work at Bryn Mawr moving south.

Crews will work on one block at a time, with each block taking around two weeks to complete, O'Connor said.
No Parking signs will be posted as needed during work hours (generally 7 am – 4 p.m., Monday - Friday). Parking outside of those hours will be allowed, but cars will need to be moved by the start of the next workday. Crews will try to preserve as much parking space as possible.

"When we are working in the street, we may close or limit it to traffic for safety reasons, but you will always be able to reach your home or business," DWM Commissioner Randy Conner said in a letter to residents. "Outside of working hours, a travel lane will be left open for local traffic only."
The water main replacement is slated to be completed by April.
