Hilarious Lincoln Square Home Decor Shows 'Christmas Gone Wrong'

Oh geez... Santa is stuck in the chimney, his reindeer is tangled in lights and an elf is hanging perilously off the side of the roof.

CHICAGO — We all know the holidays don't always run smoothly, and a Lincoln Square artist has captured that perfectly — with a festive spectacle of mayhem on his roof that's cracking up the neighborhood. Known throughout his community for his creative, funny holiday home displays, Kevin Byrne has really brought it this year. His latest display includes an upside-down Santa, a tangled reindeer, gifts a-sprawled and a little elf hanging on for dear life. C'mon team Santa, get it together!

"I wanted to try to tell a story with the decorations and create a complete scene," Byrne said. "I started with Santa stuck in the chimney and then thought 'what else could do wrong?'"

Byrne and his husband began brainstorming and thought that a reindeer tangled in a string of lights would be funny.

"The elf, bag and presents strewn across the roof and trees pulled it all together," Byrne said. "We're already thinking of what I can make to add to it next year."

Byrne said the feedback from passersby has warmed his heart.

"We really have the best neighbors; they've been so complimentary. I've seen a number of people stop to take pictures and had several people yell out of their car windows to me to say how much they like it," Byrne said. "Someone told me ours was their favorite house in the neighborhood, which made my day."

Byrne is a workshop owner who's worked professionally in technical theater and was responsible for maintaining the lobby installation at Blue Man Group Chicago. He even offers a behind-the-scenes look on his blog at how his "Christmas Gone Wrong" display was created.

The talented artist hand carved and painted a massive grim reaper last year that loomed over his home for Halloween.

This year's decor builds on last year's "Kicking Santa," display, which featured mechanical kicking legs.

You can check out his popular display at 2319 W. Foster Ave.
