Local Folk Group Earns 'Song of the Year' in National Competition
Move over, Lollapalooza Lincoln Square is home to one of the best songwriters in the country.

Fresh off their new CD release party at Martyr's earlier in July, local folk band Jonas Friddle and the Majority found out a song from a previous album was not to be forgotten.
Their song, "Belle de Louisville" won the coveted Song of the Year in the 16th annual John Lennon Songwriting Contest.
Friddle and the Majority beat out 72 amateur and professional finalists from 12 different categories to claim their title. The distinction earned the 7-piece band $20,000 and studio equipment for the next year.

A regular at the Old Town School of Folk Music, Friddle met the rest of the group while teaching. Their music is described as "orchestral-folk" and has been seen throughout the city along with the neighborhood's Square Roots festival.
To celebrate, the Majority will host a show at the City Winery Aug. 31.
