Lincoln Square Parking Meters Turned Into Art

You'll now see a very familiar face on old neighborhood parking meters.

CHICAGO — The Lincoln Square neighborhood has yet again celebrated its name, with the face of Lincoln himself appearing on old, left-behind parking meters. The Lincoln Square Neighborhood Improvement Program and One River School have turned turned the parking meters into art.

Eleven parking meters, mostly on Lincoln Ave, have been turned into art installations with the school's help. One River School is lending the talents of their instructors and artist network, and the neighborhood improvement project is reimbursing them for their supplies.

After pay boxes were installed, coin-operated meters were left in place to provide hitching posts for bicyclists.

The neighborhood improvement program and One River School hope that by making the meters stand out, they'll not only liven the corridor, but will also encourage bicycling in the neighborhood.
