More Than 30 Cats Need Foster Homes After Edgewater House Fire

Some of the felines are suffering from health issues caused by smoke inhalation, according to PAWS Chicago.

CHICAGO, IL — More than 30 cats are in need of foster homes after an Edgewater house fire last week displaced them, according to PAWS Chicago. The felines' owner was hospitalized from the blaze, and Chicago Animal Care and Control asked PAWS for help.

Currently, PAWS has taken in 18 of the cats, and some of them are suffering from symptoms of secondary pneumonia caused by smoke inhalation, the shelter said. Those cats are being treated with oxygen therapy, fluids and antibiotics. The other cats also are being monitoried for any signs of secondary pneumonia, according to PAWS.

Many of the felines will need to be fostered while they recover and are old enough for spay/neuter surgery. Anyone interested in fostering a cat can email foster@pawschicago.org and fill out an online survey.
