Pawar to Reveal Neighborhood Improvement Projects at Ward Meeting

At the Ward Council meeting tonight, residents will hear what improvements are coming to Ward 47 from a $1.3 million fund.

After months of community input, residents will hear what improvements are coming to Ward 47 out of the alderman’s menu funds.

Ameya Pawar (47th) has $1.3 million to spend on infrastructure improvements in the area. In November, the alderman asked neighborhood groups to complete block-by-block audits. Then, his staff compiled the results, combined them with city data and organized an online poll so residents could vote for certain projects.

At a ward council meeting Tuesday night Pawar, will announce what projects made the cut. The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. at Bethany Retirement, 4950 N. Ashland Avenue, and all residents are welcome.

The alderman has already promised funds for pedestrian islands at Lane Tech as well as Lincoln and Leland avenues.

A preliminary list of projects totaled around $6 million, and was narrowed down by the online voting. On that list, the most common requests were alley and street resurfacing, new streetlights, and curb and gutter repair, according to Ward 47 Community Specialist Jim Poole.

Despite poor alley conditions, residents rated the overall appearance of homes and development a 4 out of 5 in the ward. All conditions averaged a 3 or better on a 0 to 5 scale, Poole said.
