Robert Morris University Illinois and Steinmetz High School Partnership Provides College Opportunities for Students

Steinmetz students earn college credit and take part in college activities through partnership with Robert Morris University

On Monday, June 19, Mayor Rahm Emmanuel, representatives from Chicago Public Schools and RMU President Mablene Krueger celebrated the first year of a partnership between Robert Morris University and Steinmetz College Prep High School that provides college credit and higher education experiences for Steinmetz students. Steinmetz is located at 3030 N. Mobile on Chicago’s northwest side.

Over the past year, students completed dual credit courses, were involved in campus visits, art and sports clinics, seminars, and became eligible for RMU scholarships toward a bachelor’s degree. They met with Robert Morris alumni, explored athletic opportunities in the expansive sports and performing arts program at RMU and were assisted in the college application process.

The RMU-Steinmetz Partnership has involved over 650 junior and senior students in various activities. It is an example of efforts to achieve the CPS goal of helping all students with the option of a plan for higher education as they graduate high school.

RMU President Mablene Krueger commented that the partnership is an example of the University’s efforts to fulfill its mission of offering professional, career-focused education in a collegiate setting to diverse communities. “So many of our successful alumni started their college careers at RMU as CPS graduates,” she said. “We are proud of the long relationship RMU has had with Chicago Public Schools and particularly this growing partnership with Steinmetz.”
