Sewer Project Begins In Budlong Woods
Drivers can expect parking restrictions and lane closures on Berwyn Avenue between Bowmanville and Oakley, the city said.

CHICAGO — A new sewer lining project has started in the Budlong Woods neighborhood on Berwyn Avenue, the city's Department of Water Management announced Tuesday. A main sewer line will be installed between Bowmanville and Oakley over the next few days.
Residents can expect lane closures and restricted parking in the area. 'No Parking' signs will be posted in the immediate area a day before any scheduled work begins, Ald. Pat O'Connor said in a letter to residents.
Residents are asked to move their vehicles away from the work site to avoid being towed. Lane closures can also be expected during work hours — 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"This project will rehabilitate the existing sewer in the area without the conventional digging method," O'Connor said in his letter. "The sewer rehabilitation will minimize, if not eliminate, street cave-ins due to failure in old sewers. It will also bring better drainage to the area and may help alleviate flooding during heavy rain."
To prevent odors during the project, residents are asked to pour two to three cups of water into each basement floor drain and restrict water usage as much as possible, the alderman said.

A city engineer will be on site during work hours to answer questions. Residents can also call the 40th Ward office at (773) 769-1140 with questions and concerns.
The sewer project is expected to be completed by the end of February.
