Sprint to Bring 1,000 New Jobs to Chicago in 2016

Company says new jobs include retail stores, wireless experts, network technicians and engineers.

Sprint plans to add 1,000 new jobs in Chicago along with an expected investment of near $150 million by the end of 2016, thanks to the Sprint for Chicago initiative.

Monday’s announcement builds on the 300 new jobs that Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Sprint when the Sprint for Chicago initiative was first announced in March, which is dedicated to improving customer service and “simplifying the brand experience.”

“Sprint is doubling down on its commitment to Chicago by adding over one thousand jobs to our city’s economy and further investing in the infrastructure that is bringing both the jobs and the technology to power Chicago’s neighborhoods and communities for the 21st century,” Emanuel said in written release.

The additional 750 jobs will include new retail positions to serve more customers, wireless experts for Sprint’s Direct 2 You program, and network technicians and engineers. The available positions will cross all skill levels and will be located throughout the city. Residents interested in applying for open positions should visit www.sprint.com/jobs.

“We are in the midst of a historic turnaround at Sprint and as we continue to attract more customers to our network, we need more employees to serve their needs,” Claure said. “Our innovative local market approach in Chicago brings us closer to our consumers and allows us to connect one-on-one with them so that we can exceed their expectations and create loyal customers for life.”

In addition to network spend increases from $45 million to nearly $150 million in the city of Chicago, the company plans to spend a total of $250 million in the Chicago area.

Chicago will also be the first Sprint city upgraded to an even faster network with the deployment of LTE Advanced technologies.

The new cell sites to be located in neighborhoods throughout the city include the areas around Rush University Medical Center, areas surrounding Garfield Park, and along CTA subway routes as part of the city’s project to upgrade the Chicago subway’s wireless network to 4G.

Sprint for Chicago is led by Tracy Nolan, president and general manager of Illinois and Wisconsin. She is based in Chicago and directs a team of more than 1,000 employees spanning sales, customer care, operations, network, finance, IT and marketing.
