Storms Are Headed Toward Lincoln Square

The National Weather Service issued a local weather alert at 12:30 p.m. Friday.

Doppler radar is showing a strong line of thunderstorms from Lake Forest to Yorkville, and it's headed this way at about 30 miles per hour. Storms are expected to begin at around 1:30 p.m. here in Chicago.

The storm contains half-inch hail, winds greater than 40 miles per hour, continuous cloud-to-ground lightning and heavy downpours. All of Chicago is in the path of the storm.

"Gusty winds may cause small objects … to blow around. Stay away from high objects such as trees. Heavy rainfall could lead to standing water on roadways and poor visibility. Seek shelter in a sturdy structure until these storms have passed."
