Timeless Toys Celebrates 25 Years In Lincoln Square

CHICAGO —Since its beginning in 1994, children have flocked to Timeless Toys on Chicago's North Side and marveled at the wonders inside. Nestled in Lincoln Square, the shop has offered generations of shoppers and children a toy oasis.

Tiddlywinks, puzzles, ball games, marbles, dolls, scooters and books are all designed to help children develop their minds, said Timeless Toys Shopkeeper Scott Friedland.

“Play is so important to help the development of our children. We’ve spent 25 years spreading joy and letting little ones explore their imaginations. Kids come into our shop and know it is ok to touch the merchandise,” he said.

“Play teaches children valuable life skills. Imagination. Collaboration. Innovation. In a world where we are constantly scheduling our lives and our children, we want kids and parents to know its ok to get lost in their imaginations. That’s what we want them to do at Timeless Toys, ” said Friedland.

Toy trends have changed over the last 25 years, he said.

“25 years ago Beanie Babies were all the rage. Today coding toys are at the top of everyone’s list. We work hard to make sure we have something for everyone – from cutting edge educational toys to go old school jacks and pickup sticks. All toys are crucial to help kids grow and be happy, healthy adults,” said Friedland.

The event will include music, games, giveaways, caramel corn, cotton candy and lots of fun activities.

WHEN: May 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• The Lucky Trikes Marching Band will play from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., then again from 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m.
• Shenanigan The Clown (balloon animals, magic and more) will perform from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Happy Birthday song and cake cutting: 11:30 a.m.
• there will be juggling, stilt walkers and a unicycle rider performing from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Timeless Toys is an independent toy store that was established in 1993 by former shopkeepers Harry and Martha Burrows. Living and working in the heart of Lincoln Square, the couple wanted a toy store that would provide an "urban oasis" for children and their families, they said. The store's current shopkeeper, Scott Friedland, aims to keep this vision alive with his passion for toys and child development.
