VIDEO: Plumbers Rescue Kitten From Sewage System

The little black fur ball's owners are considering renaming it after the plumbing company who rescued it.

CHICAGO, IL — A little black kitten was having a rough day Wednesday, having gotten stuck in a pipe in a condo building. Block Club Chicago reported residents of the Uptown condo had heard the kitten's meows since 7 a.m.

After a search, they eventually determined the cat had slipped into an uncovered gutter line and found its way into the sewer system. It was around 1:30 p.m. when they called J. Blanton Plumbing.

Time was running out for the kitten. It would rain later in Chicago, which meant the drainage system would fill with water.

The plumbers slipped a camera into the piping to make it easier to pinpoint where the kitten was.

“It was pretty special, pretty interesting in the life of a plumber,” Jordan Blanton, the company's owner's son, told Block Club Chicago.

The outlet reported the plumbers found the kitten in a six-inch diameter pipe which, coincidentally, had a break. The break made for limited optioned when it came to rescuing the kitten.

The plumbers wanted to know if they could go ahead with fixing the pipe, since they were already there. The condo association held an emergency meeting, Block Club Chicago reported, and approved the fix. The plumbing team got to work.

Ken “Boomer” Strohman, Blanton’s senior field manager, pulled out the little fur ball to safety. Its relieved owners are considering renaming it J.B., Blanton said.

"It was a great experience for us to be able to help out our customers. Boomer did a great job and saved the day!" said Grace Blanton, the plumbing company's general manager and owner's daughter.

"At the end of the day, we were able to serve our customers and save a kitten's life. It doesn't get much better than that!"
