Dog, Cat Die In House Fire Near Glen Ellyn

Two family pets died after a fire broke out in a home in unincorporated Glen Ellyn Tuesday night.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — A family dog and cat died Tuesday after a fire tore through a home in the 22W500 block of Sycamore Drive in unincorporated Glen Ellyn.

Fire crews got to the scene just before 8 p.m. to find smoke coming from the first floor windows and roof of the home. Firefighters pulled a dog and a cat from the blaze, but paramedics were unable to save them.

The fire was located in the home's basement, where firefighters encountered high heat and heavy smoke. It took 14 minutes for fire crews to extinguish the blaze. On-scene assistance was provided by the Wheaton, Lombard and Downers Grove fire department.

The fire displaced the home's residents. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
