Lisle To Host Public Meeting About Cannabis Sales
Members of Opt Out Lisle are hoping to discourage opting in ahead of the meeting.
LISLE, IL — Many of Lisle's neighbors are on track to ban sales of recreational cannabis, leading residents to wonder whether the village will choose to opt in for the potential tax revenue or opt out due to safety concerns for children. Ahead of a Sept. 19 meeting on recreational cannabis sales, Opt Out Lisle is hoping to sway village board members to opt out.
A similar effort in Naperville recently helped lead to that city opting out of cannabis sales altogether for the time being.
Lisle officials and residents will gather on Sept. 19 for a Special Committee of the Whole meeting to talk about whether zoning laws should be changed to permit cannabis businesses to operate within the village. The meeting comes after Governor J.B. Pritzker signed a law making recreational cannabis use and sales legal for adults 21 and older in Illinois effective Jan. 1, 2020.

The Naperville faction of Opt Out brought hundreds of people to speak against recreational cannabis sales at an hours-long meeting before Naperville voted to opt out.
Lisle residents are invited to attend the village's Sept. 19 meeting to share their own opinions about recreational cannabis sales. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the Village Hall Board Room at 925 Burlington Ave.
Residents who can't make the meeting, but want to share their input can email communications@villageoflisle.org ahead of the meeting.
