Metra Sends Message To BNSF Customers In Wake Of Changes

Metra is asking customers of the BNSF line for patience, apologizing just hours after schedule changes went into effect.

Just one day after changes to the BNSF Metra schedule went into effect Monday morning, Metra issued an apology to customers due to crowded conditions on some trains as a result of the time adjustments.

In the message that was also sent to Patch, Metra says, "Please accept our apologies for the crowded conditions on some trains under the new BNSF line schedule. We know with major schedule revisions that changes may be needed as our customers get used to the schedule and adopt new travel patterns. This includes adding cars to some trains by subtracting cars from other trains (since we have a finite number of railcars)."

While Metra says they've started making adjustments, they're asking customers for their patience because the company is monitoring the situation very closely and wants to base "major changes" on more than just a few days' experiences.

"This schedule revision was prompted by the needs of the new federally mandated Positive Train Control (PTC) safety system," Metra said.

When it comes to the schedule changes, Village of Lisle Government officials add that PACE has also adjusted route schedules that serve the BNSF line. Those also went into effect Monday morning.

According to metrarail.com, there are no changes to the line's Saturday or Sunday schedules.
