During a snow event, snow plows prioritize clearing roadways based on the number of vehicle trips accommodated by the roadway, which occurs in the following order: arterial roads (main roads), secondary roads (roads that feed into arterial roads) and cul-de-sacs. Depending on the volume of snow that accumulates as a result of a storm, the complete clean up of all roadways can take several hours after the storm has concluded.
Clearing snow from areas around fire hydrants allows fire trucks and personnel to safely access them in the event of an emergency situation. Property owners with hydrants on or near their property are kindly asked to clear a radius around the hydrant with a path to the road. Please keep in mind that plowing operations will deposit snow at the ends of private driveways. Unfortunately, this is an unavoidable occurrence due to the nature of snow clearing operations. If possible, wait until after the snow plow has made a last pass to clear the snow from the end of your driveway, or otherwise be prepared to clear your drive more than once. When clearing the end of your driveway, making an effort to place the bulk of the snow to the right of the driveway (as you face the road) may reduce the snow deposited in your apron.
