Crete Man Charged With DUI In Pickup-Car Crash Near Manhattan

Three people suffered serious injuries in the 2-vehicle accident Sunday.

WILL COUNTY, IL — Three people were seriously hurt in a two-vehicle crash Sunday, just west of Manhattan in Will County, according to Illinois State Police. A Crete man faces charges stemming from the accident.

Matthew Hurta, 32, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence and disobeying a traffic control device. He was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Joliet, treated and released before being taken to Will County Jail. His bond hearing is set for Monday afternoon, according to the Will County Sheriff's Office.

The accident happened just before 2 a.m. near Route 53 and Manhattan-Monee Road, the state police said. Hurta was traveling east on Manhattan Road in a Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck when he allegedly ran the red light at Route 53, and the front of his truck hit the passenger side of a Buick Lucerne in the intersection, police added.

A 43-year-old Tinley Park woman riding in the pickup was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, according to state police. Another passenger in the truck — a 32-year-old Crete man — was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood with serious injuries, police added.

The driver of the Buick — a 44-year-old Joliet woman — also was taken to Loyola with serious injuries. Two other passengers in the car suffered minor injuries.

State police are continuing to investigate the crash.
