Football Season Means Pigskin Preview Player of the Week is Back

Football season is almost here and again this year, Kevin Molloy State Farm with WJOL AM 1340 will be sponsoring the Pigskin Preview Player of the Week. The Pigskin Preview weekly talk show is devoted to prep football and it airs every Thursday on WJOL AM 1340 from 6 – 8 p.m. Pigskin Preview is hosted by EDGY TIM “Tim O’Halloran” and The “Coach” Joe Rodeghero.

During the show, the previous games are discussed, what players had a standout game, and what listeners can expect in upcoming games. Each week a Player of the Week is announced. Edgy and Coach head up a team of five experts to choose the weekly winner after reviewing the stats so each athlete has an equal opportunity. Every Monday morning, Kevin Molloy and Scott Slocum announce the Player of the Week on WJOL AM. Each Tuesday Molloy, Edgy and Coach Joe visit the winner and present the award in front of the winner’s teammates during their football practice.

According to Coach Joe, the players are aware of the weekly award and get excited when the three men show up. “This award was Kevin’s idea, and the players really appreciate the recognition. We show up near the end of practice, and tell the entire team why the particular player was chosen.”

“It’s turned out really well awarding a player every week. We always present the award in person and it’s really appreciated by the player and the team, “Edgy Tim said.

In December a banquet is held to honor the weekly winners, their families and coaches. At the banquet the offensive player of the year, defensive player of the year and coach of the year are announced. “The banquet at the end of the year is a great event and the players, families and coaches all attend,” Edgy Tim said. The banquet also is sponsored by Kevin Molloy State Farm.

Edgy Tim and Coach Joe are considered two of the best high school football experts in the area. Edgy said he was just a regular football player, but that he has been covering Illinois High School Football (IHSA) football since 1995 When asked where his nickname came from, Edgy Tim laughed and said he used to call in to the Sport Zone show, and he was told his voice sounded edgy. The nickname has stuck. Coach Joe is a Hall of Fame Coach and football announcer for WJOL. He is a high school teacher for Lemont High School, and after retiring as the head baseball coach at Lemont, took a job at Joliet Catholic Academy as assistant varsity baseball coach, working under one of his former players.

The WJOL AM 1340 Joliet Preseason Coaches Kickoff Show is Thursday, Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. The show features every head varsity football coach from the area. Over 20 coaches will be interviewed by Edgy Tim and Coach Joe.
