MANHATTAN, IL — Lincoln-Way West's Amanda Hess will be one of 20 rising high school seniors from across the state of Illinois to showcase her talent, fitness, and communication skills and compete for college scholarships on July 9, the district said.
Hess will represent Manhattan and the community at the Distinguished Young Woman program, a national scholarship program that promotes and rewards scholarship, leadership and talent in young women. The district said college scholarships are awarded at the state level ($3,620 last year) and millions in college-granted scholarships are available ($1 billion nationally).
The 2020 Illinois representative will travel to Mobile, Alabama, in June 2020 to compete in the national program.
