MANHATTAN, IL — The Manhattan Fire Protection District is sharing several safety tips from the Illinois State Fire Marshal after Manhattan Fire recently had a 911 call for a possible dryer fire. According to the fire protection district, the safety tips center on how to prevent clothes dryer fires, and they believe it's perfect timing to share these important safety reminders.

The fire protection district encourages residents to follow these tips listed below, so that doing laundry can remain a safe and worry-free routine.

  • Have a professional install and service.
  • Never use a dryer without a lint filter.
  • Clean the filter before each use.
  • Make sure the air exhaust pipe is clear of obstructions.
