Manhattan Proclaims Apraxia Awareness Day
This year marks the 7th annual Childhood Apraxia of Speech Day, during which awareness will be raised about childhood apraxia of speech.
MANHATTAN, IL — At the Manhattan village board meeting on May 7, Mayor James Doyle proclaimed May 14 as Apraxia Awareness Day in the village. According to the proclamation, this year marks the seventh annual Childhood Apraxia of Speech Day, during which awareness will be raised about childhood apraxia of speech.
CAS causes children to have extreme difficulty learning to speak and most children with apraxia of speech will learn to communicate with their own voices only if they receive early intervention and frequent speech therapy, the proclamation states.
"It is imperative there be greater public awarness about childhood apraxia of speech at the local, state and federal level," the proclamation states.
