Manhattan Weather Channel Announces Weather Awareness Video
During severe weather preparedness week, the Manhattan Weather Channel collaborates with the National Weather Service to create a video.

The Manhattan Weather Channel (MWC) is not for profit community organization that was formed in 2011 to keep Manhattan and surrounding communities up to date with current weather, watches and warnings specifically for our area. MWC is part of the National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Ready Nation program (WRN). They work in cooperation with the NWS to help get information out to our communities in the event of severe weather so that people can be prepared. They also share their weather data and report information to the NWS. Their forecasts are tailored to the Manhattan/Elwood areas, but also include New Lenox, Frankfort, Joliet, Mokena, Wilton Center, Green Garden, Lockport and Homer Glen and can pinpoint where severe weather will occur. Severe weather can form rapidly in our area, and their goal is to keep you updated as severe weather threatens the community and will work close with the National Weather Service to inform the community of severe weather. Their motto is “Together, we can all make our community safer”. Daniel Casper, Manhattan resident is the founder and director of operations at the Manhattan Weather Channel. As his full time job he owns and operates a video production company, but in most of his spare time, he runs and monitors the Manhattan Weather Channel. His weather center studio in his Manhattan home, is designed to have all of the current weather forecasting model runs, radars, atmospheric monitoring programs, a weather station to monitor current conditions and access to weather bulletins. He provides weather updates regularly but especially when hazardous weather occurs. He also has a storm chase vehicle setup with HD cameras and a drone to capture severe weather events. Mr. Casper has always been a weather enthusiast. His first tornado he witnessed was in 1976, when he saw the Lemont tornado. He has seen a number of other tornadoes including a large wedged tornado that appeared in south Manhattan Township in 2008 and most recently last year in Manhattan a tornado in August that touched down on Gougar Rd. He majored in communications and video production at Columbia College in Chicago and took meteorology classes in which Tom Skilling from WGN was his teacher. He is committed to notifying the communities of hazardous weather and weather forecasts. He recently produced a severe weather awareness video (ARE YOU READY?)
with the National Weather Service to inform the area about the upcoming severe weather season and it is available for viewing on their facebook page.
March 3rd through the 9th is Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Illinois.
