New Commissioner Appointed To MFPD Board of Trustees

Jerry Kinsella, a former captain and member to the MFPD, ​was appointed during Monday's MFPD Board of Trustees meeting, a news release said.

MANHATTAN, IL — The Manhattan Fire Protection District (MFPD) Board of Trustees appointed a new member to the Board of Commissioners Monday, according to a news release from the MFPD. Jerry Kinsella, a former MFPD captain and member, was appointed during Monday's MFPD Board of Trustees meeting, the news release said.

“For 37 years, Jerry Kinsella worked proudly alongside the men and women of MFPD," Fire Chief Steve Malone said, in the news release. "He is known as a well-respected and driven leader in our organization. Jerry has a passion for the fire service and our community. His knowledge of our department’s history and growth align with our vision for the future of this Department—one that provides the highest level of service to all of our residents."

Kinsella was appointed following the leave of MFPD Commissioner Robert Berg, one of the original sworn-in board members who served on the board for 13 years, according to the news release.

“Commissioner Berg was instrumental in the hiring process when the Fire District began to move forward with hiring full-time firefighters,” Board of Trustees President William Moncrief said, in the news release. “His dedication to hiring the best qualified firefighter-paramedics is tribute to the quality care and service we provide. We truly appreciate his years of service to MFPD.”
