Police Investigate Smash And Grab Burglary At North Street Citgo

According to Manhattan police, those involved left the gas station before officers got there.

MANHATTAN, IL — The Manhattan Police Department is investigating after the Citgo Gas Station at 270 W. North Street was burglarized while closed around 1:37 a.m. Tuesday. According to a news release from the police department, an activated burglar alarm alerted police to the area. Officers got to the gas station and found that one of the glass front doors was smashed out, and merchandise and a cash register with an undisclosed amount of cash were taken, according to the news release.

According to the police department, those involved in the burglary left the area before police arrived, according to the news release.

The investigation is ongoing and police ask anyone with information to contact the Manhattan Police Department at 815-478-4408.

Police also ask the public to be vigilant, and asks anyone who sees suspicious activity, vehicles or individuals in a closed business lot or plaza, to immediately call 911.

The Manhattan Police Department Investigations Division continues to monitor activity in Will County and the surrounding areas, as well as work with investigators from area law enforcement agencies to stay on top of this type of activity. The police department added that information gathered by authorities is given to their patrol division to be able to have the most up-to-date intelligence as they patrol the village. However, the police department said they'd benefit from any help the public can provide as added "eyes and ears" to report suspicious activity.

The police department reminds residents to make sure their property is secured before going to bed for the night. Police urge residents to lock their cars and houses, close garage doors, and activate any alarms and/or surveillance systems.
