The new chief of the Manhattan Fire Protection District has been a firefighter for 17 years.

MANHATTAN, IL – Deputy Fire Chief Steve Malone has been named the new fire chief of the Manhattan Fire Protection District. He replaces Daniel Forsythe in the role as chief.

Malone is a 17-year veteran of the fire district, beginning in 2001 as a volunteer firefighter/EMT. He was later hired as a full-time firefighter/paramedic in November 2007 and then promoted to lieutenant in January 2010, according to a news release. He had been in his role as deputy chief since July 2015.

“I am extremely honored and very excited to have been appointed as the new Fire Chief of Manhattan.” Malone said. “I have been with the district since 2001 and have seen many changes over the years. As we move forward, I have many goals and a vision for the future of this organization. I look forward to working with the Village of Manhattan and all citizens of the District to maintain a positive direction of the organization.”
