
MANHATTAN, IL — A man is in custody Sunday night after a standoff that stemmed from threats against his father and brother, Will County Sheriff's police said.
The incident occurred in the 13000 block of W. Kennedy Road in Manhattan. John Patrick Thomas threatened his family and police were called. Will County Forest Preserve police were the first to arrive on the scene. As the officer arrived, Thomas allegedly fired at the squad car, striking it at least once, police said.
The officer was able to retreat and call for assistance. The Will County SWAT team was called and responded to the scene due to the nature of the call.

Thomas was arrested and charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm. He was taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility and will be held pending a bond hearing.
