Woman, 55, Dies After Manhattan Township Crash: Coroner

MANHATTAN, IL — A 55-year-old woman from Bourbonnais has died after a crash in Manhattan Township Monday, the Will County Coroner's Office said. Laura Schmersahl died at 6:51 p.m. Monday at the Silver Cross Intensive Care Unit.

Schmersahl was involved in a crash with another vehicle in Manhattan Township at 9:56 a.m. Monday, according to Illinois State Police. The crash between Schmersahl's Toyota Camry and a Ford Focus occurred at Route 52 and Offner Road.

Police said the Toyota, which Schmersahl was driving, was traveling on West Offner Road approaching the stop sign at Route 52, while the Ford was traveling northbound on Route 52. The Toyota turned onto Route 52 in front of the Ford and was t-boned in the intersection.

Both Schmersahl and the driver of the Ford, a 55-year-old man from Manteno, were taken to Silver Cross Hospital with serious injuries.
