Aunt Nancy's Child Care Will Give District 210 $60,000 Per Year

This is less than the $90,000-a-year payment the district sought for daycare services at the three high schools.

Aunt Nancy's, the child-care center that provides services at Lincoln-Way High School District 210's three schools, will pay $60,000 a year to use space at the schools under an agreement approved Thursday night by the board of education.

Supt. Scott Tingley was unable to get Aunt Nancy's to agree to $90,000 a year, which was what the district initially sought from the private daycare operator. The $60,000 annual payment was approved on a 6-1 vote.

Board member Christopher Lucchetti voted against the deal.

“It just doesn’t seem right,” Lucchetti said, according to a report by The Herald-News.

The district's relationship with Aunt Nancy's, which has operated for 20 years in Lincoln Way without offering any payment to the school system, has come under intense scrutiny after revelations former Superintendent Lawrence Wyllie extended the contract without board approval prior to his retirement.

District 210, due to financial problems, was unable to keep Lincoln-Way North High School open, and decided earlier this year to shutter the school to save money. The district is on the state's financial watch list and is under federal investigation for the sorry state of its financial management.

Several community members in attendance were dismayed the district accepted less than what was sought and voiced displeasure at the vote.
