Cardinal Bernardin Catholic School Raises Money for Make-A-Wish

Cardinal Joseph Bernardin Catholic School students recently had Penny Wars to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation

Making an impact on the lives of children in need is wonderful, but when children can help other children, that feeling is even better. During Catholic Schools Week (January 31- February 5, 2021) students at Cardinal Joseph Bernardin Catholic School (Orland Hills) raised $2390.97 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions.
CJB Student Council conducted Penny Wars between all of the grades and students were encouraged to bring in coins. CJB students exceeded their goal of raising $1,500, and because they did, Ms. Bourrell (Principal) and Mrs. Pagliaro (Assistant Principal) will be wrapped in wrapping paper and will have a race through the hallways.
Adrian Kurzweil, sixth grade teacher and Student Council Moderator, says, “It is amazing to see students of all ages not only get into the competitiveness of Penny Wars, but also to witness them seeing the bigger picture of how something so small, such as bringing in coins, can make a huge impact towards the happiness of others. That’s truly what these competitions are all about!”
Cardinal Joseph Bernardin Catholic School, twice-recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence (2008 and 2018), is now accepting registrations for the 2021-22 school year. CJB is celebrating its 20th year and is committed to providing a top-rated academic experience as well as a safe learning environment centered in faith. CJB is a regional school sponsored by four parishes (St. Elizabeth Ann Seton - Orland Hills, St. Francis of Assisi - Orland Park, St. Stephen Deacon and Martyr - Tinley Park, and St. Julie Billiart - Tinley Park.) CJB welcomes students in 3-year old PreK through 8th grade with a focus on developing each student’s spiritual, intellectual, emotional, creative, physical, and social needs.
