concerned about school openings in the fall

Keep an eye on your school district opening plans

The plans for local school opening is being developed. Parents of k-12 students need to be prepared to force the opening of their schools in the fall without restrictions of times and dates their kids will be in school. At the present time, school boards are being pressured by teacher unions and some government officials to put in place restrictions and that will adversely affect the education of our children. Even the parents of children who followed the e-learning procedures know their is no substitute for the classroom and social interaction for their kids everyday. The scientific data is objectively true, k-12 age children are not in any danger because of COVID 19. In fact, the danger is not having school where they learn best and develop social skills. Older adults under 60 also are not a vulnerable group. The teacher unions want to use COVID 19 as a bargaining tool. Teachers under a collective bargaining agreement have no rights in the everyday operation of the school day. Management rights gives the school board the authority to open the schools and set curriculum and class size in accordance with the CBA. Teachers should be protected in their roles as classroom teachers. Nobody wants a teacher to get sick, but no one should want the rights of the children to be denied to be educated in the physical classroom. E-Learning is not a mandated option and should not even be considered. Parents who wish to home school their children should have that right as they do now. Teachers who do not want to teach in the classroom this school year should be allowed to take an unpaid leave of absence for 1 year. Teachers who become ill during their employment should be able to use sick leave as usual. The school boards need to understand that not opening school in a full manner is not only illegal but immoral. Parents need to strongly demand the rights of their children to be educated in THEIR schools. Parents send a note to board members and the school superintendents and tell them you will accept nothing short of the total opening of the schools.
