Local Athlete Eats Hotdogs to Benefit Cancer Group

Jennifer Wlodarek is kind of like SuperWoman.

The longtime Frankfort Square resident is a wife to Michael and mom to Joseph, a senior at Lincoln-Way East High School. She is a decorated Ironman athlete. She is a cancer survivor.

Wlodarek has competed in multiple Ironman races, where athletes are pushed to the limit by swimming 2.4 miles, then biking 112 miles and THEN running 26.2 miles. In one race.

Wlodarek started running in 2008 to get in shape. She found out she actually loved it, and it helped her to lose about 50 pounds. She ran her first marathon in 2010, and basically never stopped.

She learned to swim at age forty, started competing in sprint triathlons, then half Ironman races, and and pretty soon she was competing in full Ironman.

Along the way, in March 2018, Wlodarek was diagnosed with gallbladder cancer.

She couldn't wait to get running again. And, by August of 2019, she was once again medalling at local triathlons and then competing again as an Ironman.

In all these races, Wlodarek decided she wanted to raise funds for F*ck Cancer, a 501-3c organization that raises awareness and provides education about early cancer detection and prevention. She has already raised thousands of dollars through her racing, and this Fourth of July, she is doing even more.

At 2PM on July 4, she will be challenge herself to see how many hotdogs (and buns) she can consume in 10 minutes, right on her driveway in Frankfort Square at 7538 Benton Drive, with all donations to the challenge going to F*ck Cancer.
