Mokena Approves Fireworks Contract For July 4

The board authorized an agreement with Melrose Pyrotechnics, Inc., for a public fireworks display for July 4.

MOKENA, IL — Looking forward to Fourth of July, the Mokena Village Board approved a special event assistance request for the 33rd annual Firecracker Dance weekend and fundraiser event, as well a fireworks contract for July 4.

At its Monday meeting, the village board granted approval to the Mokena Lions Club to conduct their annual firecracker dance weekend and fundraiser event on July 16 and July 17. The event will use the Front Street commuter lot, and door-to-door ticket sales will also be allowed from May 1 through July 16, according to board documents.

The board also authorized an agreement with Melrose Pyrotechnics, Inc., for a public fireworks display for July 4. The contract is for $22,400, according to board documents.

The fireworks display will be held on the Ozinga Bros. property, just north of Hickory Creek Metra lot.

The fireworks display has a rain date of July 5.
