Mokena Extends Contracts For Annual Turf, Pond, Mosquito Programs
The village approved contract extensions for its annual pond maintenance, annual turf maintenance, and annual mosquito control programs.
MOKENA, IL — The Mokena Village Board approved three contract extensions for its annual mosquito control program, annual pond maintenance program and annual turf maintenance program at its Monday meeting.
Turf Maintenance Program
The turf maintenance program consists of the mowing and maintenance of Village-owned properties like Village Hall, the police department, water towers, wells, pumping stations and commuter parking facilities, as well as retention ponds and easements, according to board documents.

A total of 178.32 acres are included in the program.
The Village Board approved the extension of its existing contract with Beary Landscaping of Lockport at a cost of $74,910.

Mosquito Control
The Village's mosquito control program includes the inspection of breeding areas from May through September, treatment of catch basins, arbovirus testing and applications of IEPA-approved larvicides when breeding is found, board documents state.
The Village Board approved the extension of its existing contract with Clarke Environmental of St. Charles at a cost of $14,575.
Pond Maintenance
Mokena's pond maintenance program includes the servicing of 23 ponds throughout the village.
Staff engineer Dan Peloquin said services include water quality monitoring, applying chemicals to address any water quality issues, and to monitor and address aquatic vegetation control.
The Village Board approved the extension of its existing contract with McCloud Aquatics of Elburn at a cost of $26,564.
