Mokena Honors Retiring Interim Public Works Director
Mark Detloff is retiring after 22 years with Mokena's Public Works department.
MOKENA, IL — Retiring interim Director of Public Works Mark Detloff was honored by the Mokena Village Board at its Monday meeting. Detloff started his career with the village in 1998.
Detloff has held several positions throughout his time at the village, including public improvements inspector, street superintendent, assistant public works director and interim director of public works, according to a proclamation read at the village board meeting. Detloff was also a member of the team that delivered Lake Michigan water to Mokena, and has played a role in developing plans for the wastewater treatment plant upgrades.
Detloff took the role of interim director of public works at the height of the pandemic last year, the proclamation notes.

Village Administrator John Tomasoski shared some words from former village administrator John Downs, who worked with Detloff before Downs retired in 2015.
"Mark, you always exerted 110 percent of effort each and every day. Not only did you work hard during the normal work week, but you spent countless hours and days during off hours checking on things, responding to inquiries and serving the community during emergency conditions," Tomasoski said, sharing on Downs' behalf. "You were always reliable, and never shied away from extending yourself to the fullest under any circumstance."
