Mokena Junior High Girls Basketball Team Advances To Semifinals

MOKENA, IL — The Mokena Junior High eighth grade girls basketball team are the sectional champions and has advanced to the first round of the IESA Class 4A state tournament.

In Regional competition, Mokena first faced Manhattan and defeated them 44-10, according to the IESA website. Next, they faced Homer Glen, and also won 39-9. In the Regional Championship, Mokena defeated Frankfort Hickory Creek 38-35.

Most recently, they defeated Kankakee Junior High 40-18 to win the sectional title Dec. 11.

The team's next match-up will be at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 14 against Urbana Middle School. The state tournament will be played at Macon Meridian High School in Macon. Mokena is 25-2, while Urbana is 18-3.

The winner of the game will advance to the semifinals and will face the winner of Alton and Harvey Brooks. The state championship game will be played Dec. 19.
