More Severe Storms, Heavy Rain Expected Today

A flash flood watch has been issued for tonight and into Thursday morning for counties across Northern Illinois.

A flash flood watch has been issued for counties across Northern Illinois as more severe weather is expected Wednesday evening and overnight.

The flash flood watch will take effect at 7 p.m. Wednesday and continue through Thursday morning for Kane, DuPage, Cook, McHenry, Kendall, Will and Lake counties.

Periods of showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop early Wednesday evening and increase in intensity later in the evening, according to the National Weather Service.

The thunderstorms will be capable of producing rainfall rates in excess of one to two inches per hour with total rainfall amounts of one to four inches possible. Some isolated areas may see amounts higher than five inches.

“Due to the recent bouts of rainfall over the past week to ten days the ground is nearly saturated in many places and additional rain could very well lead to immediate runoff and rapid flooding,” according to the National Weather Service.

Quick rises at streams and creeks is possible and flooding on some roadways may occur.
