Rep. McDermed Commences Annual Diaper Drive

Diapers, baby wipes, and diaper rash cream will be collected at Rep. McDermed's district office for local families in need.

Frankfort, IL… Following up on previously successful holiday drives that benefited economically challenged local mothers, State Representative Margo McDermed (R-Mokena) is proud to again announce her annual diaper drive. The month long donation drive runs from November 19th to December 19th.

More than 5 million children in the US live in poor or low-income families. On average, a newborn goes through about 360 diapers per month. Unfortunately, the so-called “diaper loophole” means that government assistance programs, like SNAP, don’t cover diapers, which are essential to keep an infant or toddler clean, dry, and healthy. Cleanliness is essential to the physical and mental well-being of infants and contributes positively to their growth.

“As a community, we are measured most by how we take care of those who are struggling,” Rep McDermed said. “It’s the season of giving and I am asking residents to share their good fortune this season and help address an under-served, but still very important, need in our community.”
