St. Mary to Present on Human Trafficking Problem

More than 10,000 people become victims of human trafficking each year in the U.S. On Tuesday, January 21st, St. Mary Mokena will host a presentation on this often unnoticed crime at 7 pm in the Church Hall. Sister Barbara Sheehan, SP will be the presenter.

“Human Trafficking is the most insidious and horrific crime of our age,” says Danielle Kuboushek, Faith Formation Coordinator at St. Mary Mokena. “Trafficking of humans is the second-largest criminal industry in the world and has gone unnoticed in big cities and small towns.”

The presentation will explore the scope of the crime and how close it happens to home. Illinois alone saw 296 human trafficking cases reported in 2018.

Barbara Sheehan is a Sister of Providence of St. Mary of the Woods,
Indiana. She is a member of the Illinois Women Against Human Trafficking Committee.

Sister Barbara presently ministers in Chicago as a Clinical Pastoral Educator of the
Urban Clinical Pastoral Education program which serves the marginalized and
educates persons of faith in the art of pastoral care in the social context with
compassion and justice.
