Two Cars Stolen From Open Garages In Mokena: Cops
The unlocked cars were stolen Wednesday afternoon from open garages on Celtic Court and Cambridge Drive.
MOKENA, IL — Two cars were stolen in Mokena on Wednesday, according to the Mokena Police Department. The unlocked cars were stolen Wednesday afternoon from open garages on Celtic Court and Cambridge Drive, Police Chief Steve Vaccaro said.
The keys were inside each of the cars. Vaccaro said a gray Volkswagen SUV was involved in the incident.
A blue Volkswagen SUV was a vehicle of interest in a car burglary a few days ago, Vaccaro said. The officer chased the car out of Mokena, before it fled on I-80. Police believe it was the same vehicle involved Wednesday's incident.

Vaccaro said there has been a slight uptick in car burglaries during the day. Nearby New Lenox and Frankfort have also reported an increase in car burglaries.
"We can't do this alone, we do have resources that we have been putting in place, but we need residents to help," Vaccaro said, advising residents to lock their car doors, close their garage doors and remove keys from the vehicle.
