Village Of Mokena Announces Independence Day Fireworks Plan

MOKENA, IL — As the nation prepares to celebrate Independence Day as communities around Illinois continue to fully reopen, the Village of Mokena has finalized its plans for its July 4 fireworks celebration.

This year’s show will begin at 9 p.m. July 4 and will originate from the Ozinga Bros. site, which is located northwest of the intersection if LaGrange Road and 191st Street, village officials announced on Thursday. The launch site, which was also used last year, offers the majority of Mokena’s 21,000 residents to view the fireworks in person or – if they choose – from the comfort of their own back yards or deck.

Gates at the Hickory Creek Metra lot, which is located south of the launch site, will open at 7 p.m. A limited number of portable toilets will be at the location for public use. Village officials announced that in addition to the Metra lot, area restaurants are expected to offer viewing parties and packages that include food and beverages.

The Village of Mokena is also planning to live-stream the fireworks show which will allow residents and non-residents like the opportunity to view the display on their mobile devices and laptop computers. The livestream will be available at the village’s website.

The fireworks show will be dependent on weather and village officials said Thursday that inclement weather could force the cancelation or postponement of the fireworks display. If necessary, village officials will make a determination and announcement through its mass notification system, which can be signed up for on the village website.
