America’s Safest Cities: Naperville Makes The List
24/7 Wall St. compiled the list by analyzing data from the FBI's 2018 Uniform Crime Report.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Naperville was named among the safest cities in the United States, according to financial news site 24/7 Wall St. The America’s Safest Cities report ranked metro areas with at least 100,000 people, using several different criteria.
The city finished second on the nationwide list.
- 2018 Violent Crime Rate: 68.7 per 100,000 people
- 2018 Homicides: 0
- Poverty Rate: 4.4 percent
- 2018 Unemployment Rate: 3 percent
To find the 50 safest cities in the United States, 24/7 Wall St. went through the FBI’s 2018 Uniform Crime Report and found the total number and rates of murder, non-negligent manslaughter, rape, robbery and aggravated assault.

The site also used the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2017 American Community Survey to find the median household income and poverty rates for the cities.
Irvine, California ranked as the safest city in the nation, followed by Naperville, Illinois and Murrieta, California.

“The cities with the lowest violent crime rates tend to share several other socioeconomic characteristics as well — notably, economic prosperity. Indeed, the vast majority of the cities on the list have a low unemployment rate and a high median household income,” authors of the America’s Safest Cities report said.

- McAllen, Texas
- Frisco, Texas
- Gilbert, Arizona
- Pearland, Texas
- Thousand Oaks, California
- Glendale, California
- League City, Texas
