Christmas 2017: Naperville To Raise Gigantic Tree

Naperville's Christmas tree arrival is a sight to see for all the Whos in Whoville.

NAPERVILLE, IL — For some, it's a tradition to attend the annual placement of the Riverwalk Christmas tree. This year, Nov. 14, spectators can meet at the dandelion fountain on Jackson Avenue and Webster Street for a glimpse at the sure-to-be gargantuan tree. According to a press release from the Naperville Park District, this year's tree was selected for its size, appearance and accessibility. It belongs to a town home association, and doesn't have a homeowner's story associated with it this year.

The oversize tree makes for an excellent photo opportunity. You can catch this year's tree being hoisted up between 9:30 and 10 a.m. Tuesday. Times are approximate.

From holiday markets to visiting Santa on the riverwalk, there's no shortage of Christmastime activities in the area. The Christkindlmarket is the Midwest's only German outdoor market of its kind at Naper Settlement. It opens Nov. 24. While you're there, you can step back in time to Christmas in the suburbs in the post-war era. Just down the street is Santa House, starting Dec. 1 with free admission and $8 photos, or two for $15. For $18, you can reserve a seat on the Naperville Trolley Holiday Lights tour, either covering the North or South side of town.
