Naperville Student Charged With Bringing Knives To School

The student is facing charges and was placed on home detention.

NAPERVILLE, IL — A Naperville Central high school student has been ordered to home detention for bringing four knives to school, according to a press release Wednesday from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office. A student notified a school resource officer about the weapons Nov. 14, and a following investigation showed the student allegedly had one knife on him and three more in his backpack.

That student is now facing charges for the incident. The release says they don't know yet why the student might have brought them to school.

"Schools are not a place for weapons of any type," says the county State's Attorney Robert B. Berlin. "Teachers can't teach, and students can't learn if they are worried for their personal safety while at school. I would like to commend the student who came forward and alerted authorities to what was perceived as a threat to students' safety."
