7-Eleven Robbed At Gunpoint On Oakton

Cigarettes, lottery tickets and cash was stolen in an armed robbery in Niles Sunday evening, police said.

NILES, IL — Police are searching for two men who robbed a convenience store at gunpoint Sunday in Niles. Officers got a call around 7:45 p.m. that an armed robbery had just occurred at the 7-Eleven store at 7450 W. Oakton Street, police said. The clerk told police one robber posed as a customer and tried to distract him before a masked man entered with a gun and demanded money.

Police said the first man was described as 35 to 40 years old, between 5 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet, 8 inches tall, 200 and 300 pounds and Hispanic. He was wearing sunglasses and a dark hooded sweatshirt as he tried to purchase cigarettes before the gunman entered.

The second robber was described as between 35 and 40 years old, 5 foot, 8 inches to 5 foot, 10 inches tall and 180 to 200 pounds. He was wearing some form of nylon material over his face, a black Nike baseball hat and a dark colored jacket, according to Cmdr. Robert Tornabene.

After the man with the gun forced the clerk to empty the register, the two men made him open the store's back door, where they fled on foot, according to police. The two men made off with about $2,000 in cash and an unknown number of cigarettes and lottery tickets, which are immediately cancelled when stolen.

Police asked any residents with surveillance video from residential security cameras that may have recorded video in the area between about 7:30 and 7:50 p.m. — or anyone else with information about the incident — to contact the detective bureau of the Niles Police Department at 847-588-6570.
