Gunman In Overnight SWAT Team Standoff In Morton Grove Arrested
Police said a 51-year-old man with a shotgun was taken into custody after a standoff with a suburban SWAT team for more than 12 hours.

MORTON GROVE, IL — An armed standoff between a suburban SWAT team and a domestic battery suspect began Monday evening and extended more than 14 hours into Tuesday morning, police said.
Around 5 p.m., officers arrived at a home on Oriole Avenue north of Dempster Street to arrest a man living there and serve him with an order of protection over an incident that occurred the previous day, according to a Morton Grove police spokesperson.
Kevin M. Maguire, 51, of the 8900 block of Oriole Avenue, armed himself with a shotgun, leading officers to take cover, police said. A family member who was inside the home at the time was able to escape without injury.

Police called in the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System, set up a perimeter around Maguire's house and blocked vehicle and foot traffic for several blocks around the incident.
Negotiators have been unable to make contact with Maguire inside the home during the stand-off, according to police. Officers have tried various methods, including chemical irritants, to get him to come out over the course of the night.

No shots were fired and there were no injuries reported, but police said Maguire has pointed the shotgun out of various windows at officers several times during the night.
According to past reports, Maguire was charged with aggravated arson to Oriole Avenue home in 2013, shortly after being released from state prison on parole following multiple convictions for driving under the influence.
Police said Maguire was taken into custody around 9:15 a.m. after members of the SWAT team entered the house. Additional charges are expected to be filed in connection with the standoff.
